How it works
The essence of health insurance is that a person who buys an annual policy, upon the occurrence of an insured event (illness or injury), is entitled to free and extraordinary medical care within the framework of those budgets and the list of services that are provided for them. The budgets themselves, the list of services, the level of hospitals and clinics depend on the specific insurer, the price of the policy, as well as the age and state of health of the person. Roughly speaking, the younger and healthier you are – the cheaper insurance will cost. As a rule, she guarantees inpatient (hospital treatment), outpatient (call a doctor at home), emergency (departure ambulance) help, payment and delivery of drugs. Insurance can cover the cost of treatment in whole or in part. If the insured is sick, he needs to call the insurance call center and explain the problem. The operator should offer several clinics in the nearest area, appoint a doctor and agree on a convenient time of admission.
The client will be denied insurance if he has:
window of disease;
chronic renal failure;
drug or alcohol addiction.
Depending on the specific SC, the “forbidden” list may vary, but not significant.
In most countries, there is compulsory medical insurance when a person is insured by the state or an employer, and the cost of a policy is deducted from the state budget or his salary. In Ukraine, this is not. Our health insurance is a purely voluntary matter. And you will have to pay for it either yourself, or the employer will do it for you, if he sees fit.
How I chose insurance
I have no corporate insurance, alas. Therefore, I searched for the policy on my own. “Dental package” was decisive for me. I was interested in both planned (prophylactic) and unplanned (sudden toothache) treatment, as well as prosthetic dentistry. I phoned the top ten companies – leaders in the field of health insurance. As it turned out, most of them do not insure individuals and work only with the corporate sector. Individual insurance was offered by only three insurance companies: Providna, UNIKA, and INGO Ukraine. In each of them, I considered two policies. The first is the recommendation of the insurance agent based on my wishes for services and price. The second is the policy with the highest limit on dentistry. That’s what came of it.
Insured events are:
acute diseases that threaten health and life;
chronic diseases (up to 3 exacerbations per year);
accidents caused by no fault of the client;
unplanned surgical intervention (if an operation is needed in a chronic illness or accident)
